Envision Builders is a custom home building company founded in 2009 with a focus on delivering the best possible value to our clients. Our innovative plans are perfect for many different types of homesites from small infill locations to large estate properties. Our experienced team will guide you through every step of the process to create a seamless home building experience.
Walsh & Company Roots
In 1933 – Andrew J. Walsh, grandfather of Envision Builders founder Bill Hofherr started a small seed and feed store named Walsh and Company in Baltimore. Seeing a need in the mid-1940’s they moved to a new location, convincing the property owner to take a chance with a mere $100 down payment and a promise to pay.
The new location off Stemmers Run Road was larger, had a storefront and a warehouse next to the railroad tracks. They began selling hardware and paint in addition to the seed and feed and with the building boom starting after WWII they took a big leap purchasing a few used lumber trucks, a forklift and began selling lumber and other building materials. Eventually, they added kitchen cabinets, countertops, plumbing fixtures, windows, and doors, etc.
Walsh and Company furnished building materials for a few thousand homes in and around the Baltimore area for decades. Mr. Walsh’s sons Richard, Ronald, and Andrew, as well as Bill’s father Howard, worked for Walsh and Company for many years as the family business grew. Mr. Walsh retired in the mid-1970s but the company continued operating until finally closing in 1993 after 60 years in business.
Our Team
William T. Hofherr: President, Founder
Bill Hofherr is a 25-plus year veteran of the real estate and homebuilding industries, working in both the private and public sectors. Prior to founding Envision Builders, he was Division President for Beazer Homes, a top-10 national homebuilder in Delaware and northern Virginia.
He also worked for national builders Pulte Home Corporation and Ryan Homes and has developed numerous communities throughout Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and northern Virginia. Throughout his career, he has gained hands-on experience in management, marketing, land acquisition, operations, and construction.
